Foodie Kayak Tour exploring Lough Foyle’s richness
For Foyle Maritime Festival 2018 we will run a special Foodie Kayak tour. This will take place from Culmore Point to Redcastle Pier. The tour will explore the heritage of Lough Foyle from a gastronomical perspective.
This Foodie Kayak Tour will be approximately 2 hours on the water. A wild camp lunch or snack will be offered at Redcastle.
This high quality tour is for people wishing to experience the full flavour of the Foyle system. Our light lunch will be sourced from local bespoke food suppliers like Broighter Gold Rapeseed Oil and Dart Mountain Cheese. The tour will be both historical and gastronomical.
The tour will launch from Culmore Point at high tide and finish at the beautiful Redcastle slipway. The Foyle waterway through Lough Foyle is both scenic and under-used. Our guides will detail the mythology and chronological use of the waterway by successive invading peoples.
We will explain the foundation myths which give the Foyle/Feabhail its name and explain the modern context which prevails in terms of the ownership and fishing rights on the system.
Two qualified Far and Wild kayak instructors will lead the group of up to 15 participants. No prior experience is required.
At Redcastle slipway we will have a cold lunch, allowing you to sample some local organic food in a light cold lunch/snack. The foods will be high quality and sourced from reputable local suppliers. After a relaxing and conducive light meal in the beautiful surroundings of Redcastle slipway, you will be bused back to your vehicle at Culmore Point.
There will be one tour per day. Times for the tour will vary with the tide. Please check when booking. The tour is suitable for adults and children over 14yrs accompanied by a parent/guardian on the water.
