This Wild Cookery experience is located in the Heart of the Park beside the newly restored Walled Garden in St Columb’s Park House. Based in the biggest urban park in Derry-Londonderry, it is 15 minutes walk from the city centre across the Peace Bridge. This event is part of Derry’s Slow Food Festival 2019
The Wild Cookery experience welcomes visitors into this unique space. We want to share food around a campfire and learn about food progeny and principles of good environmental practice.
Our Bell Tent camp provides simple organic herbs and flavoursome ingredients grown nearby. We can help you design your own campfire food. You will be supported by a Far and Wild wild cooking expert. They will supply you with a list of potential menu items to conjure up.
Cooking will take place over an open fire-bowl, with basic ingredients supplied. You can cook then under supervision to produce a simple family lunch.
Being outdoors in the vicinity of our camp is all part of the fun and experience. We hope you will spend a relaxing 2 hours with us on your city visit.
This experience covers a family of up to four people (2 adults, 2 children). For younger children, fairy toadstools or straw hay bales form our seating arrangements within a wide grassed area which children can explore.
St Columb’s Park House is a Peace Centre, working with communities throughout the city on the legacy of the conflict. The Walled Garden restoration, completed in summer 2019, is a re-imagining of the civic space around the house along permaculture principles.
