Wave Sweepers SUP Challenge – THE Stand Up Paddle Board event
6 hours of tide. 1 person per board. 1 paddle. 1 mission. 1 mythic backdrop.
The challenge is laid down to you to get the furthest on a Stand Up Paddle Board before the tide turns on Lough Foyle.
Wave Sweeper is the name given to Mananan McLir’s boat. Manannan is the Irish God of the Sea, whose son Feabhail gives the Foyle its historic name.
The event is located on Ireland’s stunning North West coastline where the Wild Atlantic Way meets the Causeway Coastal Route.
The event is for amateur outdoor enthusiasts. It aims to promote the recreational use of Foyle Estuary and Lough Foyle. We want to provide a great opportunity for enthusiastic people to take on a light-hearted but meaningful challenge.
We depart from Derry City marina and the furthest paddle point is Greencastle in Co. Donegal. In the event of multiple arrivals in Greencastle, the first to arrive wins!
Dealing with a range of environmental factors such as wind, tide and 6 hours on a board is all part of the fun. Enter as a group and support each other along the way, or go solo and aim for a time.
Safety on the water will be provided and pick-up along the lough shore to return you to your starting point. Bring your own SUP. A limited supply will be available to hire at a cost of £10 on the day.
This event is kindly supported by Malin Waters.
