Hello,
My name is Mairéad and I am the new Far and Wild administrator. I am an avid lover of all things outdoors and a trainee Mountain Leader. I am happiest when hiking, exploring a forest, dipping in a lake or waterfall or getting sandy toes. Equally, after all of the above, you will probably find me drifting off to sleep on the sofa, tucked up under a blanket in front of the fire. (Whilst being adamant I am still awake!!)
I have always loved spending time outdoors. Some of my favourite childhood memories are long days exploring the beaches of Donegal with my family, splashing around in the North Atlantic Ocean no matter what the weather, often coming out almost blue (much to my mother’s dismay). Not to my dad though, he was always in there with us and was often the hardest one to get out and get home.
We were then quickly bundled into the car wrapped in towels, with the car heaters on full power in an attempt to thaw us out and stop the hypothermia from setting in. Once we could feel our fingers again we were on the hunt for chips for our chip butties, swiftly followed by 3 exhausted children fast asleep in the car for the remainder of the journey home. It is memories like these that have given me a deeper appreciation of nature and the simple happiness that some fresh air and a dip in the sea can truly bring.
My love of the outdoors soon developed into a love of the environment, which continues to grow day by day and I try to make strides daily to live sustainably. In steps Far and Wild – a company who are doing absolutely everything I love and who stand for all the things I am most passionate about. Encouraging people to step outside, embrace their sense of adventure, learn more about nature and the beautiful island of Ireland in the most sustainable way.
Far and Wild are offering something truly unique, which really needs to be experienced to be believed, and with years of knowledge and support you are definitely in safe hands, no matter what adventure you choose. It’s not often you can spend your Saturday night kayaking down the Foyle with the sun setting to your left and the strawberry moon rising to your right. 2 hours of sheer bliss on beautiful calm waters, followed by a wonderful sense of accomplishment and the most contented nights sleep. I am looking forward to the next adventure already.
