Mountain biking is an energising way to enjoy being outdoors. It is easy to learn in a controlled way, building confidence at every step. Over a series of progressive sessions you can master the skills to ride off-road. This opens up lots of locations in which you can enjoy cycling- from forest parks to coastal trails. With a quick set of practical exercises, our instructors can bring you through the steps to competency.

Mountain bike trails are varied from professionally built trails to so-called amateur ones. Each has its own appeal. The sport is family-friendly and can build physical dexterity and confidence in children as young as 5yrs old. Gaining the confidence to ride off-roads and on many of the dedicated trails in your region is where Far and Wild can help.

We take a progressive approach to learning using practical, hands-on sessions. This can bring you from beginner to a competent off-road cyclist. Our instructors follow the ‘Gearing Up’ curriculum from Cycling Ireland. This way we break the core skills of mountain-biking into easy steps.

After our training you will feel more co-ordinated, confident and capable to cycle over any surface- mud, rock and gravel. You will feel equipped to take small to moderate hills and drops on double and single track trails. You will even be able to cycle down steps!

Our training is based in Derry City. It  can be completed progressively in three 2 hour sessions. Each session is priced individually, with a discount provided when you purchase a package of 3.

Come and try your first session with a friend of family member. You won’t be disappointed, .even if you are new to cycling. Mountain biking is an exciting and easy to master sports suitable for anyone with a moderate level of fitness. Please enquire if you have any questions or concerns before purchasing your first session. The sessions make an ideal gift experience for teenagers and young adults interested in gaining practical experience in the outdoors. They are suitable for male and females alike.

Lorcan McBride

Director

I have been making the outdoors both my work and passion for over 10 years now- and every activity brings new people, new places, and new discoveries. What keeps me smiling is discovering the depth of Ireland’s natural heritage- and how people take to it so positively. I have been working with community leaders in Aotearoa/New Zealand for years to understand our own indigenous identity.
